For whatever reason, many of my colleagues refuse to accept the concept of a selection policy for Internet resources. I am told this is censorship. However many of these same folks use a selection policy for collection development. What is the difference?â

Now what about the kids?
We are introducing a new product /concept/strategy for the home computer.
IF-KIDS is an opportunity to discover the Internet in a partnership with your young child. This is very different concept than a porn filter or bad site filter. This is a building and discovery experience between adult and child.
You may add or delete to your list as you go. This will produce an Internet that is discovered and explored by adult and child together. Once a portal or url is entered then it can be freely returned to again and again. The child can then explore the Internet on his own with total certainty of protection from unknown Internet sites. This is a creative process of discovering your own personal Internet. Everything is blocked except that which is allowed."
Such a process would produce a variety of personal internet childs worlds which could be pooled. And our current thinking is to white site the kids library in the same way. This will take an unprecedented amount of work and co-operation. This will even a harder sell.
As Tomeboy says..it's a selection processâ.
Hhmmmnnn...there would be the overview committee, the ways and means committee, the legal committee, the oversite committee, errors and omissions etc etc etc.... as stated this will be a hard sell.
